There’s a debate, at the moment, about what it means to be a “milanese“, what it’s trendy to wear and to do. It has been started on corriere.it and I really like the article that my friend and co-blogger Cristiana Palmigiano wrote on our collective blog about Milano, ciabattine.net.
Since this blog is about being chic, the question is: how chic are the “milanesi”? I might not be the right judge since I am a “milanese” myself, but I feel entitled to give my contribution as the established blogger of “Chic After Fifty“…
Well, I think this is a city where women are very conscious of their style and very careful to the way they present themselves. Which I think is a good thing, certainly related to the fact that Milano is still a place defined by work. And yes, the milanesi have their own style: sober and relaxed. And yes, I personally think I could be a good ambassador of that style.
Look at me today, in my usual kitchen selfie: I am wearing a pair of black jeans (by Eileen Fisher, a brand that unfortunately doesn’t sell in Italy), a grey long sleeve T-shirt (Zara), a little sweater I made myself and the Barrito shoes you’ve already seen more than once. Those particular shoes are the detail that makes the difference between being stylish and being boring, if you ask me. And I have been very happy when last saturday in Torino, finally relaxing in the lounge of Il Circolo dei Lettori, their press attaché noticed my shoes. We had a conversation about style and she invited me to an event about fashion they will held next october… I can’t wait!
As for the Parisians, main topic of the book “Come essere una parigina. Ovunque tu sia» by Caroline de Maigret, Sophie Mas, Audrey Diwan and Anne Berest, I think they are still the best dressed in the world, no doubt about it (and a little envy!)
