No ambitious aims today. Just to look pretty, for the pleasure of it.
I have read an article, this morning on my way to work. The journalist was asking Manolo Blahnik about the elegance of women in Milano and he said in Milano there are too many jeans, and women are much more elegant in London and New York. Do I agree with him (if anybody cares…)? Yes and no.
But I have been thinking. Also because tomorrow is Thursday and on Thursday I write my piece for Giorni Moderni. I will write about too many jeans.
So I thought about jeans. I love them a lot. I think they are a great invention, and many times they are also the perfect dressing solution.
It is difficult to make them elegant, though. To make them #chicafter50. In my opinion, elegant jeans means a pair that are: quite dark, not worn out at all, fitting but not tight, straight. In a way, similar to a pair of normal blue pants. You can improve the elegance with a small cashmere cardigan or pull, in a basic colour like blue or gray or black or beige. A well cut jacket is a good addition. And the shoes? That’s quite tricky: I would say no to pumps. Yes to ballerinas, again black or blue or gray or beige. Yes to brogues, the thick and wintry tipe. Yes to loafers. Yes to boots, like polished black beatles. I urgently need a pair of them, now that I think about it!
But I also realized that, even though I love jeans, I don’t wear them much, especially at work. Skirts and other pants are better choices, ones that I make without even thinking about. Like today, in my #selfieinthekitchen: light blue summer skirt (Max & Co), grey jacket (Max & Co again), grey sweater (home made), grey bag (Sirni), black T-shirt (Zara) longer than the sweater, black stockings, black flat ankle boots (Zara). Actually the boots are the only item I am not sure is perfecty fitting… what do you think?
Have a nice day!
